“I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.
- Ezekiel 22:30
The Gap.
Those among us who are saved cannot but be aware that in our unsaved state there exists between us and the God of all creation what He so lightly describes, a gap. If the magnitude of this distance were to be calculated from our side of this disconnect it might more closely echo a chasm.
No human endeavor can cross this distance. The weight of our sin and unholiness does not allow for it. God cannot be anything other than who He is, His perfection and holiness precludes the proximity of our soul in its unwashed state.
But God in His righteousness and in His deep and abiding love for us has made a way where there is no way. He sent His Son to stand in that gap for us, to bridge our humanity and God’s divinity. It is the miracle of the death and resurrection of Christ.
Now that we are saved church we are the hands and feet of God, and he calls us to stand in the gap. To intercede for the people who so desperately need God to save them. Those who desperately need God to move in some miraculous way in their world. You have people in your world and people you have yet to meet that cry out for your devotion and faith in prayer. Family, friends, strangers.
Yesterday we encountered the valley of the dry bones, and what situation could be more dead than us without God. But those bones can live! We can stand in the gap for those that cannot stand in the gap for themselves. We can bridge them to the perfect bridge Jesus, who in turn will carry them the distance we could never carry them, to their loving Father in heaven, to a life more full of richness than they could ever have dared hope for!
Let’s stand in the gap today church and go to prayer!
Love you church
